Joker is a comic book film unlike any other

Joker tells the story of Arthur Fleck, a Gotham City resident who slowly goes insane. This movie does an incredible job depicting a mentally ill man in an unjust world. Todd Phillips’ breathtaking direction perfectly complements the dark tone of the film.

It’s clear throughout that this is a movie that is not afraid to take risks. It’s full of twists and turns, making it one of the most unpredictable films in recent memory. However, what truly makes this film worth seeing is Joaquin Phoenix, who absolutely excels in this picture. Phoenix delivers a riveting performance of the iconic comic book villain and it could even arguably rival Heath Ledger’s performance in The Dark Knight. It wouldn’t be surprising if this performance was inspired by Robert De Niro’s Travis Bickle from Martin Scorsese’s 1976 masterpiece, Taxi Driver. There are some uncanny similarities between Arthur Fleck and Travis Bickle.

Overall, Joker is a masterful origin story of the titular clown. It is such a unique experience that you need to see it to believe it. This movie is intense in all the right ways, disturbing in all the right ways, and shocking in all the right ways. It’s more than worthy to have the clown’s name on it.

I give Joker a 10/10 rating.
