1. Last month, Somalia’s deadliest recorded terrorist attack killed at least 276 citizens and wounded 300. The bomb has been said to be delivered by truck. In an article by The Guardian, the U.S. mission to Somalia said, “Such cowardly attacks reinvigorate the commitment of the United States to assist our Somali and African Union partners to combat the scourge of terrorism.” The Islamic terrorist group al-Shabab is said to be behind the attack. The U.S. has been taking out the al-Shabab leadership for the past few years. As a result, al-Shabab has been facing many problems (monetary, recruitment, leadership, etc.) but is still organised enough to pull of this large scale attack.

2. The Korean Peninsula is further destabilizing by the U.S working with the South Korean Navy and Air Force. A special team for the removal of the North Korean government was also sent. The special team included the U.S. Aircraft Carrier Ronald Reagan and two destroyers USS Mustin and USS Stethem. This is a stronger stance against North Korea, opposed to the previous empty threats dealt by the United States leadership in the previous weeks. The U.S. means business but will that push North Korea over the edge. North Korea has became more aggressive over nuclear missile tests over the past few years. These nuclear missiles have been used as threats against Japan, the. U.S., and anyone who aggravated Kim Jong Un.

3. Two separatists, Jordi Cuixart and Jordi Sánchez, were brought to court in Madrid on Oct. 16. Many protests all over Catalonia are breaking out as a result. One protest in Barcelona stretches for a kilometer. Some citizens felt as if they put more into Spain than they are receiving in return. Many of the problems are monetary-related. Inside Catalonia is the rather wealthy Barcelona region. People in that area feel as if they are contributing more than the poorer regions of Spain.

4. Last month, the claimed capital Raqqa of Islamic State fell to Syrian troops. The four month assault ended in a Syrian victory. The U.S. backed Syrian forces were given weapons and armaments to uproot ISIS footholds and end the Islamic terror threat in the Middle East. The capital was an important target because it is the claimed capital. The loss of the Islamic State’s capital scaders the leadership therefore the whole group is disorganised. With the Syrian Victory at Raqqa and the loss of most territory held by ISIS in Syria, the group is less of a threat here in the U.S. Terrorists attacks in the United States should fall because ISIS is more concerned about saving themselves rather than killing U.S. citizens half a world away.

5. The California wildfires consumed about 245,000 acres. The fires began earlier in October and quickly spread. Most of the fires were located north of the Bay Area and between Los Angeles and San Diego.
