After taking the music industry by storm and winning “Best Artist” for the MTV Music Awards, Khalid earned his place as a 19-year-old sensation. Khalid is an American singer and songwriter that produces contemporary R&B music. This past Saturday, Jan. 27, he performed at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. From a spectacular display of lights to outstanding vocals, Khalid hosted an unforgettable show that left audiences awestruck and wanting more.

The concert began with a DJ preshow. The DJ featured many popular songs from artists like Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez. Some danced, while others got comfortable in their velvet chairs.  As the curtains slowly opened around 9 p.m., Khalid was greeted by an earsplitting crowd uproar that all of NYC could have heard.

Khalid performed all of the songs on his “American Teen” album such as “Coaster,” “8TEEN,” “Saved” and “Another Sad Long Song.” Halfway through the concert, he added a surprise; he sang “Silence”, a song by Marshmello in which he was featured.

Khalid’s energy on the stage electrified the crowds as he jumped around and moved from left to right stage. He was wearing a yellow tracksuit and his background dancers changed costume a few times. For example, during his first song, “American Teen,” the dancers wore cheerleading outfits. His projected and loud voice filled every inch of the venue. His two background dancers were trivial, because ultimately, all the focus was on the superstar and his meaningful and relatable lyrics.

Later, Khalid turned it down by performing “Angels” acoustically. A spotlight and small stool accompanied him. The crowds leisurely waved their phone flashlights back and forth, creating a landscape that looked like a sky full of stars.

Bringing the energy back up, Khalid closed the concert with one of his most popular songs, “Young, Dumb, and Broke.” The crowd sang along with every word. Khalid’s contemporary R&B music paired with the venue of Radio City Music Hall was truly incredible. In heart of the city that never sleeps, Khalid definitely added to that energy and left audiences astounded with his amazing talent.
