This is not your typical MCU film.
‘Captain Marvel’ is a great introduction to the titular character, played nicely by Brie Larson. Like always, Samuel L. Jackson nails it as Nick Fury. Furthermore, Ben Mendelsohn is fantastic as Talos, Jude Law is solid, and Lashana Lynch is excellent. Overall, the cast does a good job of making the story fun and entertaining. It’s probably the film’s biggest strength.
This movie also fills in a lot of blanks in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and offers some cool surprises. That way, this prequel not only feels necessary but also unique.
However, there are a few problems. For one thing, this movie’s narrative is pretty unclear at times, making it difficult to follow the story. Also, the effects are inconsistent. Sometimes, they’re good, but they’re pretty bad at other times. Because of these flaws, you have trouble staying invested at times.
Other than that, however, this is definitely worth a look. It’s a nice prelude to ‘Avengers: Endgame’. ‘Captain Marvel’ might not be one of the MCU’s best movies, but it’s certainly an enjoyable superhero flick. I give it a 7/10 rating.
