MGMT’s new album release “Loss of Life” comes out on all platforms (Spotify, Apple Music, etc.) on February 23, 2024, as a follow-up to their most famous single “Little Dark Age.”
Fans’ favorite duo Andrew VanWyngarden and Benjamin Goldwasser are the heart and soul behind MGMT. Not only was their music career successful before, but it is taking off even more today. Most bands/artists have a point when they’re either popular or almost irrelevant. This also occurred for MGMT, but TikTok plays a big part in the band’s success in bringing back that recognition and popularity. Rolling Stone states, “Everything changed in 2018, when they dropped Little Dark Age, which was a return to the hooky anthems of their debut. The title track generated a TikTok craze and has been streamed more than 500 million times on Spotify.”
“Loss of Life” includes 10 tracks, featuring a collaboration with Christine and the Queens, the band’s first formal appearance on an MGMT album. Additionally, last month Andrew VanWyngarden shared a picture of a copy of a vinyl on a band-related subreddit, giving fans a preview of the next album. This built up the anticipation and excitement in fans, especially at KHS, as they have been waiting for nearly four years. This includes junior Olivia Kelly who says “I have been waiting for MGMT to come out with a new album or single for so long. I still listen to some of their old music and can’t wait for the new album.”
Furthermore, other fans at Kinnelon High School have been raving about the new album, including junior Lucas Caiazzo. “I have never been more excited for a new album. I listened to them a lot in middle school and recently started listening to their older songs again. I feel like this is going to be their best album yet.”
Not only are local fans over the moon regarding the new album, but people around the world are patiently waiting for the best release of 2024. MGMT has been posting spoilers on their social media accounts to pull in fans and leave them in suspense. Although this may seem annoying at times, the anticipation is raining down on everyone.
MGMT’s past singles/albums have been big hits. Some of their top hits include “Little Dark Age” (2018), “Electric Feel” (2007), “Time to Pretend” (2007), and “Kids” (2007). Not only were these songs popular at the time, but they are even more popular today. They have spread worldwide and brought joy to many fans. Therefore, fans are expecting “Loss of Life” to be one of their best albums yet. These expectations are being raised by these top hits, along with the album previews/teasers that they have been posting for fans. Overall, this album is predicted to top all of their previous releases by far and February 23 could not come sooner.
