A new cafe, Comfort Kitchen, opened this summer, replacing Lakeside Bagels, Deli, and Pizza. Comfort Cafe has much to offer, from sweet goods to fresh food and a welcoming environment.
Comfort is conveniently located on Boonton Ave. and is open Tuesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Meals are priced affordably, averaging $25-30, according to the cafe’s website, Comfort Kitchen.
Owners Brianna and David Soule, both Kinnelon alumni, were eager to open their restaurant when a new location in their hometown became available. Owner David is also the head chef and co-creator of the menus, while Brianna is there from opening to closing, where she gets to design, create new ideas, and bake goods.
“I have worked in restaurants since I was 19 and my husband has also been in the industry since he was around 16 years old; when we started dating we always wanted to open a restaurant together, and when this location became available we wanted to create something of our own,” said Brianna.
This new local cafe has provided a place where students and locals can interact over a meal or a simple cup of coffee. “I would like Comfort Kitchen to be the neighborhood hang-out where many kids come together, and the community can join and create more bonds,” said Brianna. It offers a quiet and relaxing atmosphere where locals can sit down and do work, as well as a place where students can study. “The environment was very inviting and peaceful, which made it easy for me to study and catch up on school work,” said sophomore Taylor Mulch.
The owners and employees take pride in their creative menu, which includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, family takeout, vegetarian options, and dairy-free baked goods. According to the owners, the blueberry muffin is one of the best-selling bakery items. Comfort offers many other baked items such as giant chocolate chip cookies, cinnamon rolls, croissants, crumb cake, and brownies baked freshly daily. Not only does Comfort have many fresh goods, but it also offers a snack bar that includes chips, commercial beverages, pretzels, etc.
With state-of-the-art machinery, Comfort also offers many homemade coffees, teas, and refreshers. With their weekly new special menus, individuals can indulge in new meals and beverages. “I enjoy going to Comfort Kitchen because the food is amazing, and I love the environment and energy inside the cafe,” said Mulch. “I would recommend Comfort Kitchen because of its affordable pricing, good food, and convenience since it’s nearby,” said sophomore Matuesz Sosniak.
Brianna and David made it their mission to incorporate decor that would complement their vision of comfort, from antique flower vases to fresh flowers and herbs that they incorporate in their meals and drinks.
