There are many ways to craft a hot chocolate, however an effortless and straightforward way would be to use a hot cocoa bomb. A hot cocoa bomb is a hollow, spherical shell typically filled with hot cocoa mix, chocolate, marshmallows, and sprinkles. When the hot cocoa bomb is placed in a mug and covered with hot, steamed milk the outer shell made of chocolate starts to melt, releasing the fun flavors inside. Once the hot cocoa bomb has fully dissolved in the warm milk it becomes a cup of hot chocolate, not only is this efficient but it is also a visually exciting way to make and drink a winter delight. Hot cocoa bombs are typically available in major retail stores like Walmart and Target, however, some coffee shops also offer this delight. Hot cocoa bombs range from the price of $5 to $12. “ Chocolate bombs are super delicious, not only is this treat so flavorful, but it is also easy to make,” said sophomore Taylor Mulch.
Another winter indulgent that brings holiday spirit is Peppermint Bark. This popular and delicious sweet treat is a layered candy made with two types of chocolate usually with dark or milk chocolate at the bottom layer, and white chocolate on top. The white chocolate is typically sprinkled with crushed peppermint candy and once the chocolate hardens it is ready to be eaten. Not only can you buy peppermint bark at retail stores like Amazon and Trader Joe’s but you can make this treat at home with a rather simple recipe that can be found online. Peppermint bark can range from $5 to $20, this dessert can be greatly appreciated at any gatherings and/or celebrations. “I enjoy buying peppermint bark because it gets you in the holiday spirit, and I think it is a great dessert to bring to a Christmas party and or gathering,” said sophomore Hannah Kenyon.
Lastly, roasted chestnuts are very popular due to their warmth and unique flavor. Chestnuts are also a symbol of winter tradition, evoking cozy memories of past winter memories. Roasted chestnuts are very simple to make it is simply just chestnuts that have been cooked over an open fire or in an oven until the outer shell splits and the inner becomes soft. It has been proven that roasting chestnuts enhances the flavor, making them a delicious treat. This treat can be found in a variety of places such as street vendors, some grocery stores, and online retailers, typically costing around $5 to $10 depending on the serving. “I have tried roasted chestnuts once before, it takes a long time to make so I prefer to buy them, however, I mainly enjoyed the chestnuts because it reminds me of Christmas and spending time with my family,” said sophomore Emma Smith.
These are some of the many treats that people enjoy during winter and/or holidays, celebrations, and gatherings. Whether it’s the delicious aroma of roasting chestnuts in the air, the sweet crunch of peppermint bark, or the warmth when drinking a hot chocolate, these treats bring people together during the brisk weather.
