Winter can feel long and depressing. Some may feel bored and unconfident throughout it. It is important to do everything one can to make themselves feel the best they can in their skin. Practicing self-care and beauty can help one achieve that.
Skincare
The winter is quite harsh on the skin, especially the face, which is constantly being exposed to the cold weather. That is why it is so important to have a proper skincare routine in the winter to keep it hydrated, protected, and healthy despite the cold, dry air. A hydrating cleanser that is non-stripping and gentle (like a cream or oil-based formula) is necessary to prevent dryness. A rich hydrating moisturizer with ceramides, hyaluronic acid, or glycerin to lock in moisture. Lip balm with shea butter or beeswax can help prevent chapped lips. A lightweight oil, with rosehip or jojoba, can help to add extra hydration. Even in the winter sunscreen is necessary – a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ to protect against UV rays. Hydrating face masks with ingredients such as aloe vera or honey once a week can also improve hydration and soothe the skin. And lastly, a moisturizing eye cream with caffeine or peptides can help prevent dryness and puffiness.
Body Care
Body care is also quite important in the winter. One may notice their hands and elbows feeling dry, that is because those areas, even if not exposed, still feel the harsh winter weather. A thick nourishing body lotion with cocoa or shea butter can help ease dry skin. Specifically for the hands, try to use a hand cream to prevent cracked skin. Cuticle oil is also good for keeping the nails and cuticles from becoming dry and brittle. And of course, an exfoliating scrub to remove dead skin cells to help improve moisture absorption!
Hair Care
One may feel a bit lazy in the winter to take care of their hair. They don’t sweat as much and feel that they don’t have to wash it as often or tame it. However, it is definitely still important to treat it to make sure the hair remains healthy! A deep conditioning mask with argan oil or keratin is important to hydrate the hair and prevent dryness. On top of that, use a leave-in conditioner to lock in moisture and prevent frizz. A scalp oil or serum will help nourish the scalp to prevent dryness and flakiness throughout the long winter months.
Makeup
Makeup is of course not necessary. It is just a way to give one an extra boost of confidence and feel good. Which in the winter months is important! A hydrating primer provides extra moisture to smooth the makeup application. A cream blush and highlighter blends better on dry skin, which in the winter months is common, compared to powder formulas. And of course, a hydrating lip tint or moisturizing lipstick is great for the winter!
Where Can One Find These Products?
These products can be found anywhere: the local drugstore, Target, Walmart, Ulta, Sephora, etc. It is always good to remember that a drugstore product can work as well as a brand product. It is not necessary to go out and spend a lot of money on a product and break the bank. Have a budget and spend as much as it meets the needs. Take care of yourself this winter and stay warm, hydrated, and glowing!
