This summer, your outfit inspiration might come from a new source, your own For You page.
TikTok’s advantages in trends this year have changed how trends are shared. TikTok has over a billion users worldwide, meaning trends are spread like wildfire. For example, the Adidas Sambas and Campuses are now extremely popular shoes after being shown on the app.
TikTok gives its users the ability to scroll through many different videos, as they are very short. The number of trends shared on the app can be seen by many, compared to just people using their shopping feature.
KHS sophomore Reagan Brush says, “TikTok has changed the way fashion trends emerge because it is mostly now larger influencers who create fashion trends rather than typical people you would see on the street. Fashion trends are more similar around the world now, and the summer season is mainly controlled by TikTok because everyone always wants to know what to wear to fit in.”
Some emerging trends are sundresses/skirts, many linen pants/shirts, pastel colors, and bright colors.
With the rise of the app, many young people can create their own trends or collections. For example, TikTokker Demetra Dias collaborated with the brand Beginning Boutique. Her collection included many pastel clothing items, in tune with the current trends.
TikTok has also given many the opportunity to find new trends. KHS sophomore Manali Patel says, “TikTok has allowed more people to be exposed to different types of fashion. Especially during the summer, people are exposed to more styles, allowing a more constant change in fashion.”
Easy access to trends also helps influence people to purchase trends often. Many popular styles and sites are visited, such as Edikted, Garage, Pacsun, and Hollister. With the amount of items projected onto people, they could be influenced by a trend and regret it later.
KHS Freshman Claire Fritz says, “I don’t regret trying the preppy trend, but I do wish I spent a lot less money on all of the Lululemon and other big brands.”
Scrolling and shopping online have become extremely common today, with social media playing a crucial role in aiding this. The accessibility for many has been beneficial, but it also shows how fast trends move. However, as the weather turns warmer, many will see outfit inspiration come from scrolls, not strolls.
