A class president, a guitar star, a baseball player, an All-American, a “Fayson Laker” and a lifeguard at Green Pond all competed in a male pageant with the hopes of being crowned Mr. Kinnelon 2018. The crown, the sash, the free prom bid, and of course, the bragging rights, make Mr. Kinnelon a virtuous position worth competing for.
The night began with a recap of the Mr. Kinnelon videos aired on the Kinnelon Morning Show. The contestants then performed a dance to the song “Wannabe” by the Spice Girls. The choreography by Arianna Cacioppo allowed each contestant to take the spotlight and fully entertain the crowds of students, teachers and parents alike.
The participants modeled casual wear and the hosts read their biographies. Some contestants answered, “Where do you see yourself in 20 years?” Comically, Sean Spreen “wants to be a Kinnelon Police Officer so that no KHS bathroom will be left unattended.” Also, Jake Stubbs “wants to live in Fayson Lakes and host Saturday shindigs for his friends.” Dominic Trapanese walked out on stage with overalls, a white shirt, a hat, and work boots – definitely a sight to see.
“You must be a high test score because I want to take you home and show you off to my mother.” – Sean Spreen
After the casual wear, the brains and the beauty, Hayden Burt walked on stage and took her seat in a beach chair for the “Best Pick up Line” show. Sean Spreen confidently circled Hayden Burt and crouched down saying, “You must be a high test score because I want to take you home and show you off to my mother.” Eric Moody also exuded an air of confidence but fell short when he fake threw up in front of Burt. His manager, Tim Elefonte, took the stage and cleaned up the oatmeal and milk. The boys tried their hardest, but couldn’t win over Burt.
During intermission, the audience could vote for “best legs” by donating change. The donations raised from the fundraiser are appropriated to “Grow a Row”, an organization that donates fresh produce to those in need, educates people on world hunger, and promotes agricultural sustainability.
Intermixed with the talent, pick-up lines, and modeling came the show hosts, Brian Flood, Lara Ullrich, and Lindsay Naugle. Most notably, Flood was originally in the pageant but unfortunately dropped out. Naugle did not let this fact go without addressing it. She said, “Why did you drop out of the pageant, Brian Flood?” His response evoked hearty laughter. “It would be unfair to the other contestants.”
To finish off the night, the contestants performed a final dance to “Come Fly With Me” by Frank Sinatra. In suits and ties with top hats, the boys gave it their all to win over the teacher judges. As the points were tallied, no one could wait to hear the results. Watch them below.
