As family members return home and cookies bake in the oven, one of the most relaxing ways to spend the holiday season is by watching Christmas movies alongside family and friends. Below are listed some of the traditional Christmas go-to movies that will inevitably brighten up even the worst of times, especially in conclusion to the hectic year that will be long remembered as 2020.

  1. A Christmas Story

“You’ll shoot your eye out!” One of the most iconic lines from this film, A Christmas Story features Ralphie Parker as he conquers his bullies all the while clothed in a pink bunny suit during the Christmas season. The tale of a child who dreams of a certain special gift to open Christmas morning is exactly what Ralphie depicts during this film.

  1. The Polar Express

Known for its animation style and legendary story, The Polar Express is a Holiday favorite for many early 2000’s children. Tom Hanks takes the role of three characters in the story and accompanies the rest of the children aboard the Polar Express who are seeking an adventure on the night before Christmas.

  1. White Christmas

Released in 1954, White Christmas is an original Christmas classic that appeals to any and all ages. With Bing Crosby, one of the most talented singers of his time, as the lead accompanied by Danny Kaye, the music of this movie is sure to put you in the utmost holiday spirit.

  1. Elf

A child who found his way to the north pole and grew up to be an elf travels to the Big Apple in hopes of finding his father and restoring kindness in him. Buddy the elf has become one of the most well known figures to represent the holiday season with his iconic lines and love of syrup. All those who watch Elf will find themselves laughing and singing along to Baby It’s Cold Outside and Santa Claus is Coming to Town by the time the credits roll.

  1. It’s a wonderful life

If you’ve heard the line, “Every time a bell rings, an angel gets his wings”, you’ve heard one of the most quintessential lines from this wonderful film that was released in 1947. George Bailey, played by James Stewart, is a man who debated ending it all but undergoes an adventure alongside his guardian angel, Clarence, who shows him the lights in his life. It’s a Wonderful Life is a movie all should experience and include in their annual holiday festivities.

Though the holiday season is a chaotic time for all, time spent beside the fireplace with a cookie in hand watching some Christmas classics is one of the few times families can enjoy each other’s presence and celebrate their love for one another and the holiday itself. These classics are sure to brighten up even the worst of times and bring the viewer back to a childhood state of mind during Christmas time.
