By day, she leads the school and the student council, organizing all the events; by night, she ties her bow, laces her cleats, or gets ready to swim. As a senior, executive board president, and year-round athlete, Samantha Ferretti has her hands full.
Since she was little, Ferretti loved being active. She has been cheerleading since she was seven, playing lacrosse since she was ten, and swimming her whole high school career. Additionally, she has been an active member of the student council since middle school and is the head high school cheer coach for the recreation program.
Ferretti’s leadership qualities stand out. She shows openness to take on challenges and many responsibilities.
Although it is Ferretti’s only year as executive board president, she has been working toward it for a while. “I have been in the student council for a while, and to finally be rewarded for it felt good. I had put in a lot of effort and hard work last year to help boost my standings for this year.”
As executive board president, Ferretti has a lot of daily tasks. “Some responsibilities I have as president are dealing with spirit week and assigning people different positions to help spirit week run smoothly. It’s also to help the overall school and bring issues to administrative attention when I believe things can be changed.”
Ferretti has been an advocate for her class throughout her high school career. When there are issues, she brings them to light and fights for what she believes in at board of education meetings. Just recently, she advocated for the use of backpacks in the building.
After all of her hard work helping the school during the day, Ferretti then goes to one of her many sporting events. While it depends on the season, Ferretti is also working hard.
During the fall, she participates in KHS Cheer and also coaches the Kinnelon recreational cheer program. In the winter, she swims for KHS. And finally, in the spring and summer, Ferretti plays for the KHS lacrosse team.
“It keeps me busy and I love to do things involved in my community,” she said.
After her high school career ends, Ferretti plans to continue using her leadership skills and pursue a career in early childhood education. She intends to do this at her dream school, the University of Michigan. While Ferretti will miss her busy life at KHS, she is excited to see what the future holds for her.
