As the KHS winter sports seasons slowly come to an end, it is safe to say that the Kinnelon girls’ basketball team had a very successful season this year. After a dominating record of 14-9 so far, they are determined to end this season on a strong note.
Senior captain Kelly Donaldson is a key player on the team. She constantly helps and provides support for her younger teammates. To Donaldson, being a captain means “supporting my teammates, especially when things get hard, like during the games… and pick them up, tell them ‘hey, just focus on the next play.’” Donaldson has been a star player throughout this season, with 76 points and 208 rebounds.

The Girls’ Basketball team is made up of a young group of girls. Most players on the team are underclassmen, specifically sophomores. Upperclassmen player Amelia Olsen says, “Our team last year had a lot of freshmen that were team leaders and played really well, and this year now they’re sophomores, and they’ve learned more.”
As these players get older, the team will continue to grow and be led by them throughout the upcoming years. With the consecutive successful seasons, the girls’ basketball team will continue to strive.
This past Monday, Mar. 9, the Kinnelon Jefferson Sparta (KJS) Ice Hockey team won the state championship against North Hunterdon at the Prudential Center.
With an astonishing record of 16-7, and two ties, the team has consistently beaten other nearby schools with a strong group of players, consisting of nine seniors, six juniors, two sophomores, and four freshmen. They also averaged 25 power points throughout the entire season.
This was the second time in a row that the team won the State championship. The game-ending score at the Prudential Center was 5-1, with Junior Braydon Sisco scoring three goals and four points, Senior goalie Stefan Filewicz saving 27 pucks from going in the goal, and Senior Alex Roslan having two assists. It is safe to say the team had a great game
With a large number of seniors on the team this year, the team had strong leadership and continued to improve as games and practices progressed. Roslan says, “It was a great season, and I’m glad I got to help the team out, but also be a part of it as well.” Roslan has been on the team since his freshman year and is a key player on the Kinnelon hockey team. Being a team leader plays a significant role in a successful hockey team: providing advice, leading underclassmen, and performing many other responsibilities.
With a team with a large number of seniors, there will be a good number of the team graduating this year. The now juniors and sophomores will have to take over the team and begin to run it. Junior Matthew Stack says, “I’m excited for next year ‘cause I’ll have more of a lead on the team.”
With a strong team like KJS (Kinnelon Jefferson Sparta), the team will be in good hands for the next few years to come.
KGLAX (Kinnelon girls lacrosse) is entering the 2026 season with excitement, followed by momentum, a large amount of experienced upperclassmen, and lots and lots of practice days.

This year, the team consists of seven seniors, which will greatly impact the strength and quality of the team. Seniors consist of Samantha Ferretti, Olivia Bsales, Kelly Donaldson, Madison Gigante, Sienna Fein, Olivia Torsiello, and Madison Mortimer. With a great number of experienced, strong players, the team is expected to do great this year.
In addition to the seniors, the other half of the upperclassmen, the juniors, are strong helpers with the team as well. Amelia Olsen and Taylor Mulch are the only two juniors on the team this year. Olsen says, “I am so excited for this season since I’ve been playing lacrosse for so long. It’s one of my favorite things to do. Olsen has played for the Kinnelon High School team since her freshman year in 2024 and has been on the varsity team ever since.
Starting early, the team had its first game of the season on Mar. 27 against Villa Walsh Academy. They won by ten points, the score being 17-7.
Along with their first game against Villa Walsh, the team has 16 games in total for the season, with a remaining 15 more games in store. Their next game will be their first home game, against Vernon High School, who also had their first game on Mar. 27, losing by ten with a score of 15-5.
The Kinnelon Girls lacrosse team has many ways that they make the team most enjoyable, not just practices and games. For example, they post continuous updates and content on their Instagram account, @kinnelongirlslacrosse. On here, viewers can find their schedule, which includes their games, dates, which school they are playing, and whether it is home or away. Other information, such as statistics on each player, can be found on the NJ sports website.
The team also participates in team bonding. This can consist of anything, such as getting food as a team or even just hanging out with each other.
After many successful seasons over the past few years, KGLAX seems to predict a successful season this year, and all of KHS wishes them luck.
